As we prepare for the 2020-21 season, we are happy to share that Sam Cheema will continue to be Ironbound Hockey’s  Hockey Director. Building upon the success of this season – 5 NCAA graduates with more receiving prospective offers for the following year – Sam will continue to lead the team in its development as Hockey Director and will also be the official Head Coach of both the 16U Premier & 19U Premier teams.

Sam joined Ironbound in the summer of 2019 and implemented a culture that provides the best in: training, resources, competition, exposure and college placement.

This season our program, just in its second season, can proudly state that we provide weekly skill sessions, a competitive schedule, leading on-ice training resources (reactionary lights and overspeed) and that we have placed our first graduating athletes into college programs (Holy Cross, Princeton, Anna Maria, Hobart Williams.)

Sam commented on the successes of this season by stating that, “We talked about the athlete-first model at the start of the season and improvements can be seen in all the players. Winning is a habit and culture. We are building athletes to fulfill their athletic potential whilst learning the details of the game and ultimately becoming the best player they can be.”

Outside of Ironbound Elite duties Sam operates Cheema Hockey Academy and works with college coaches / elite level players through camps, clinics and sessions. He has worked closely with the coaching staff of Suffolk, Yale, UVM, Northeastern, BU, Trinity, Cornell, Penn State, LIU and Brown, to name a few. Sam played professionally and also internationally for Great Britain, culminating in his representation at the World Winter Games 2017 in Kazakhstan.

Ironbound Hockey is excited to build upon its growth and continue to develop the model for athletes pursuing their full potential.
