Hockey halted when the pandemic hit, but now summer tournaments are back on the table!

Rink changes, masks, no spectators; the new norm in hockey requires a lot of flexibility and a willingness to play by new and stringent rules.  For those that opted to participate in Beantown, it still felt good to be back.

Ironbound Selects had 6 teams participate in the Beantown Women’s Classic 2020, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 19U Red & 19U Blue.  The teams played in New Hampshire and/or Connecticut over the weekend of July 17-19, and August 4-6.  While some parents were nervous about attending during the pandemic, some were chomping at the bit to go.  Most of the girls were thrilled to be back amongst their teammates and new friends,  and be on the ice.

The first weekend where our younger teams played provided fierce competition at all age levels.  The highlight of our weekend was when our 2008’s came together and in their final game, the girls built up some chemistry.  Being down 0-3 against the Militia, in the final 90 seconds of the game, the girls worked as a team and scored three goals to tie, and ended the weekend on a high note proving themselves to be fighters and hungry until the last seconds of the game.

Our 19 Red & Blue teams participated this past week in the middle of a tropical cyclone and the on-going pandemic.   Both of our teams faced tough competition with our 19 Red team advancing to the playoffs after defeating the CT Jr Eagles and the summer selects team Made 19.

Great job to all who participated!
